Bus–trailer collision on NH-55 claims life of conductor, injures 10 in Sambalpur
Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: In a tragic road accident late Sunday night, a passenger bus collided with a trailer truck on National Highway 55 near Luhapank under Redhakhol in Sambalpur district, leading to the death of the bus conductor and injuries to around ten passengers. The bus was reportedly en route from Cuttack to Sambalpur when it rammed into the trailer, resulting in a violent impact that left several occupants trapped inside.
Eyewitnesses said the collision occurred suddenly, causing panic among the passengers, many of whom were jolted out of their seats. The force of the crash badly damaged the front portion of the bus, where the conductor was stationed, leading to his fatal injuries. As soon as information reached the authorities, Redhakhol police personnel rushed to the accident spot and initiated a rescue operation. The injured were quickly shifted to Redhakhol Hospital for immediate treatment. Some passengers were reported to have sustained head and limb injuries, and doctors are monitoring their condition.
Police have seized the conductor’s body and sent it for post-mortem. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the collision, including whether overspeeding or poor visibility contributed to the tragic incident. Authorities have assured a thorough probe to prevent similar mishaps on the busy highway.
