Migrant worker’s tragic death in Kerala casts gloom over Kalahandi village
Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: A pall of gloom enveloped Jubang village under Gunupur police limits in Kalahandi district on Monday morning after the mortal remains of a migrant labourer, who lost his life in a tragic wall collapse in Kerala, arrived home.
The deceased, identified as Uday Majhi, a resident of Jubang village under Thuamul Rampur block, had been working with a contractor agency in Kakkodi, under the jurisdiction of Elathur police station in Kozhikode district.
According to reports, on November 1, Majhi was engaged in construction work when a partially built wall suddenly caved in, trapping him beneath a heavy concrete slab. The slab struck his head, causing severe injuries. Despite immediate efforts by the police and local authorities to rescue him and rush him to a nearby hospital, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Majhi’s body reached his native village around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, plunging the entire community into mourning. Grief-stricken relatives and villagers gathered to pay their final respects before the body was taken for cremation at the local ground.
