Freight train derails in Sundargarh, disrupting services on Rourkela–Ranchi line
Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Train services were thrown out of gear on Wednesday morning after ten wagons of a freight train derailed on the Rourkela–Ranchi main railway line in Sundargarh district. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. between Bano and Kanarawa railway stations, with several wagons overturning under the impact.
Soon after the derailment, railway emergency teams from Hatia and Bondamunda were dispatched to the site to begin restoration work. Senior officers and engineers from the Ranchi Railway Division’s engineering and operations wings also rushed to the location to take stock of the situation and supervise relief measures.
Officials stated that the exact cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained, though technical teams are investigating possible track or mechanical issues. The mishap led to suspension of train movement on the busy Rourkela–Ranchi section, affecting several passenger services, including the Maurya Express (Gorakhpur–Sambalpur), which was halted near Kanarawa station.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported. Restoration work is in full swing, and efforts are underway to clear the tracks and resume normal rail operations at the earliest.
