Partially burnt body of young woman found in Balangir forest; police suspect foul play
Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across Balangir district, the partially burnt body of a young woman was discovered in the Kumunsi forest near Goelpita village, under the Deogaon police station limits, barely 48 hours after another murder was reported in Antala village.
According to sources, two goatherds first noticed the body about half a kilometre from the Goelpita–Dumerta road and immediately informed the landowner, who alerted the local police. Soon after, a team from Deogaon Police Station reached the spot and began a preliminary investigation.
Initial findings suggest the woman may have been sexually assaulted before being set on fire, as severe burn injuries were found on her face and upper body. Police recovered broken bangles, a saree, and a shawl near the site, further indicating a possible struggle.
A scientific and forensic team has been deployed to collect evidence and assist in determining the circumstances of the crime. The identity of the victim remains unknown, and efforts are underway to trace her family.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified investigation efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits, with senior officers personally monitoring the case. The heinous crime has sparked outrage and concern among local residents, demanding swift justice.
