Jagatsinghpur Police bust ‘Don Brothers’ drug syndicate, six arrested in major crackdown
Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: In a major breakthrough against the illegal narcotics trade, Jagatsinghpur police on Tuesday arrested six members of the notorious ‘Don Brothers’ drug syndicate near the Mangalpur Bypass. The operation, led by the SDPO of Jagatsinghpur, was conducted based on credible intelligence inputs.
The prime accused, Soumyajit Parija alias Biki, a resident of Ohala village, is the alleged mastermind behind the cartel. Biki, previously arrested by the STF in 2021 for possession of 3 kg of brown sugar and ₹1 crore in cash, is involved in at least seven criminal cases. The other arrested members include Swapnajit Parija alias Jaki, Tushar Ranjan Das, Ranjit Das alias Sipu (all from Ohala village), and Abhijatya Sahoo and Ranjan Kumar Gochayat of Lalasahi village. One more accused remains absconding.
During the raid, police seized 70 grams of brown sugar, a scooter, and three mobile phones used for trafficking operations. Investigations revealed that the gang procured drugs from Murshidabad, West Bengal, smuggling them via the Digha coast using boats. Police said the group targeted college students and teenagers, distributing free samples to entrap them into addiction.
