Cyclone Montha likely to hit Andhra coast near Kakinada on October 28: IMD
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that Cyclone Montha, currently brewing over the southeast Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify rapidly into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28. The system is expected to move northwestwards and make landfall between Kalingapatnam and Machilipatnam, near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, by the evening or night of October 28.
According to Weather Scientist Uma Shankar Das, the cyclone may bring wind speeds of 90–100 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 110 kmph, potentially causing damage to coastal infrastructure, uprooting trees, and disrupting power lines. He shared the latest forecast on his X handle, urging residents in the coastal regions to remain vigilant.
The IMD has also advised fishermen not to venture into the southwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha until October 29. Those already at sea have been asked to return to the shore immediately as precautionary measures intensify along vulnerable coastal belts.
