Similipal Tiger Reserve reopens early for tourists with new entry guidelines
Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: In a welcome move for nature enthusiasts, the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha reopened to visitors today, marking the start of the tourist season ten days earlier than usual. Traditionally opened on November 1, this year the gates have been thrown open ahead of schedule to boost eco-tourism and local livelihoods.
Visitors can now enter the scenic biosphere reserve through two designated gates — Pithabata Gate near Baripada and Kaliani Gate near Jashipur. The park had remained closed since July 1 due to the monsoon season, as part of the annual safety and conservation protocol.
According to new guidelines issued by the Forest Department, only a limited number of vehicles will be permitted daily to ensure ecological balance. The first 25 four-wheelers will be allowed entry via Pithabata Gate, while 35 vehicles will be permitted through Kaliani Gate.
Forest officials have urged visitors to follow all eco-tourism rules, including no littering, no loud music, and strict adherence to wildlife safety norms, ensuring a safe and sustainable experience within the heart of Odisha’s largest tiger habitat.
