Crime Branch arrests mastermind behind CPSE-2024 question paper leak; 123 held so far
Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: In a major breakthrough, the Odisha Crime Branch has arrested Muna Mohanty, the alleged mastermind behind the Combined Police Service Examination (CPSE) 2024 question paper leak, along with three of his close associates. Mohanty, a resident of Kalapathara in Cuttack, was nabbed after an intensive probe that uncovered a well-organized racket.
According to Crime Branch DG Vinaytosh Mishra, Mohanty lived a lavish lifestyle despite having no legitimate income. He, along with associates Srikanta Maharana alias Rinku (34), Arabinda Das, Biswaranjan Behera, T. Abhimanyu Dora, and Priyadarsini Samal, ran the racket under the guidance of Shankar Prusty, Director of Panchsoft Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bhubaneswar. Prusty, who allegedly masterminded the operation from Delhi, remains absconding.
The syndicate reportedly charged candidates ₹20–25 lakh each, offering leaked question papers in exchange for their original certificates. Mohanty had even booked three buses to transport candidates to Vizianagaram, arranging their stay there.
So far, 123 people have been arrested, and the Crime Branch has seized cash worth ₹1.2 lakh, 150 digital devices, incriminating documents, and several vehicles including two tippers, a Scorpio, and a Mahindra Thar. The investigation continues to track down remaining culprits and recover further evidence.
