Low-pressure likely over South Bay of Bengal; no impact on Odisha, says IMD
Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the South Bay of Bengal around October 21, which may intensify into a depression by October 23. The system is expected to move initially northwestward before curving towards Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts.
However, the IMD has clarified that the weather system will have no impact on Odisha, as its projected path keeps it well south of the state. “Although the system may strengthen into a depression, its exact trajectory and intensity are still being closely monitored,” an IMD official stated.
According to the Global Forecast System (GFS) model, the depression could approach the north Tamil Nadu–south Andhra Pradesh coast by October 23. Yet, other weather models have shown differing predictions, leaving some uncertainty about the final course of the system.
Meanwhile, Odisha is likely to experience dry and clear weather throughout the coming week, with no rainfall expected in any part of the state, the IMD’s latest forecast confirmed. Normal temperature conditions are expected to prevail across most districts.
