Two suspects, including sharpshooter, held in advocate Pitabas Panda murder case
Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: In a major breakthrough in the high-profile murder case of senior advocate and BJP leader Pitabas Panda, the Berhampur Police have arrested two suspects from Bihar, including a professional sharpshooter believed to have played a crucial role in the crime.
The arrests were made following a multi-state surveillance operation spanning Bihar, Delhi, and Kolkata, carried out by a special team of Berhampur Police. After days of intensive intelligence gathering, the team successfully tracked down the accused through mobile phone surveillance and location tracing.
According to police sources, one of the suspects allegedly fired the fatal shot, while the other conducted a recce of Panda’s movements before the attack. Both have been brought to Berhampur for interrogation, as investigators work to establish the motive and identify possible masterminds behind the killing.
A team led by the Berhampur SP continues to pursue leads, with three police teams still deployed in different states.
Notably, on Kumar Purnima night, Panda was shot dead near Baikunth Nagar while returning home after collecting food from Bhupati Hotel at the New Bus Stand around 10 PM.
