Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expands 'Drink From Tap' mission to five more cities

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: On Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the 'Drink From Tap' initiative, also known as the Sujal scheme, in five additional cities.
The 'Drink From Tap' mission has now expanded its reach to include the cities of Rairangpur, Champua, Birmitrapur, Rajgangpur, and Nimapada.
In the upcoming days, a total of 149 wards in 13 cities will receive a supply of drinking water directly from taps. This phase of the 'Drink From Tap' mission is expected to benefit over 1.2 million people, as per credible reports on the matter.
Prior to this expansion, successful pilot projects were carried out in specific locations within the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area and Puri town. These pilot areas were chosen to represent a diverse range of residential and commercial properties, including economically weaker sections (EWS), lower-income groups (LIG), middle-income groups (MIG), higher-income groups (HIG), as well as commercial, institutional, and government buildings.
During the pilot implementation, all households were connected to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality drinking water directly from taps, operating 24/7, with full metering. This initiative brought the benefits of drink-from-tap quality water to approximately 185,000 people.
