IMD forecasts a week of unsettled weather for Odisha; yellow warning issued for several districts

Bhubaneswar , Oct 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, has predicted a week of unstable weather conditions across Odisha, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in several districts. The State is under a ‘Yellow’ weather warning for the next three days, urging residents to stay alert to possible severe localised weather.
According to IMD’s midday bulletin on Friday, synoptic conditions indicate the gradual withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from parts of the country in the next 3–4 days. However, Odisha will continue to experience convective weather activity during this transition period.
For Friday (Day 1), heavy rain with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) is expected in Koraput and Malkangiri, while thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Khurda, Ganjam, Puri, and Mayurbhanj. On Saturday (Day 2), heavy rain may occur in Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput, extending to 15 districts with gusty winds. By Sunday (Day 3), heavy rain is likely to ease, though thunderstorms may persist across the state.
Rainfall will gradually decrease after Day 4, confining mainly to southern and interior districts. The IMD reported Kotpad (Koraput) received the highest rainfall of 6 cm, while Jharsuguda and Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature at 34°C. Phulbani remained the coolest at 19°C.
For Bhubaneswar, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thunderstorm is forecast for the next 24 hours. No fishermen warnings have been issued for the next five days along the Odisha coast.
