Telangana man arrested for defrauding Bhubaneswar retired couple of ₹23.39 lakh in investment scam

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: In a major cyber fraud case, the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack arrested a 24-year-old man from Telangana for allegedly duping a retired couple of ₹23.39 lakh by luring them with promises of high returns through a forex trading scheme.
The accused, identified as Kathi Karthik Kumar from Karimnagar district, was arrested after a detailed investigation by the cyber crime unit. The victims, Sabyasachi Prahraj and his wife, had planned to invest their retirement savings in a legitimate venture to start a nursing school. However, after seeing a Facebook advertisement for an online forex trading platform, they were persuaded by the accused to invest through multiple online transactions.
Over time, they realized they had been duped, and subsequently lodged a complaint with the police. Investigations revealed that Kumar was part of a larger cyber fraud network, using virtual current accounts and fake business identities to collect funds from victims across states.
Following coordinated raids in Telangana, Kumar was apprehended. Police said further investigation is underway to trace his accomplices and money trail.
