Snake rescuer dies after cobra bite during public performance in Balangir
Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: In a tragic incident, a snake rescuer lost his life after being bitten by a venomous cobra while performing tricks before a crowd in Bakagura village of Balangir district. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Chand, a resident of Sindheikela.
According to reports, Santosh was summoned by locals after a cobra entered a villager’s house. He managed to capture the reptile safely, but instead of releasing it immediately, he began demonstrating stunts to entertain the gathered crowd. While handling the snake, the cobra suddenly bit him on the tongue, causing the venom to spread rapidly through his body.
Eyewitnesses said that Santosh collapsed within minutes, and villagers rushed him to Bhawanipatna Hospital in a critical condition. Despite efforts by doctors, he succumbed shortly after admission.
The incident has shocked the local community, many of whom had admired Santosh for his daring rescues. Experts, however, caution against performing risky stunts with wild snakes, stressing that such actions not only endanger lives but also increase panic among the public.
