Four arrested in taxi driver’s death case in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Sept 22: The Badagada police on Monday arrested four persons in connection with the mysterious death of taxi driver Bidyadhara Sahu, whose body was found under suspicious circumstances last week.
The arrested accused have been identified as N. Dilip Kumar, Ramesh Chandra Behera, K. Ravindra and Deepak Kumar Sahukar, all residents of Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district. According to police, the group had allegedly abducted Sahu on September 16 after demanding money and documents from him.
Following his disappearance, Sahu’s wife lodged a missing complaint, and after an intense search, his body was recovered on September 20 from the Baranga-Pitapalli road under Chandaka police limits.
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh revealed that the accused claimed Sahu had taken their documents and money, assuring them jobs in return. They detained him to recover their belongings. However, while under their custody, Sahu allegedly died by suicide. In a bid to mislead investigators, the accused attempted to hang the body from a tree to make it appear as a suicide.
Police have confirmed the arrest of four suspects so far, while further investigation is underway and more arrests are likely.
