CM Majhi, Governor join ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ drive in Bhubaneswar on PM Modi’s birthday
Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Wednesday led a massive cleanliness drive at the bustling Master Canteen Square in Bhubaneswar as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations.
The event witnessed the participation of senior BJP leaders, including state party president Manmohan Samal and state in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, who, along with party workers and volunteers, picked up brooms and dustpans to clean the busy streets.
Speaking to reporters, CM Majhi described the day as a “moment of national pride,” recalling how PM Modi had celebrated his birthday in Odisha last year by enjoying kheer prepared by a woman from Sabar Sahi, Gadakana, and launching the Subhadra Yojana on the same day.
Majhi linked the cleanliness campaign to broader welfare initiatives, stressing that clean surroundings directly impact women’s health, family well-being, and community safety.
The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ initiative, launched nationwide in the run-up to Gandhi Jayanti, aims to foster community responsibility and promote the Swachh Bharat Mission. Volunteers in Bhubaneswar were also seen encouraging citizens to maintain hygiene in public spaces.
