Cyclonic circulation over Odisha brings heavy rainfall alerts, IMD issues orange and yellow warnings

Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday reported that the upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh now extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. This weather system is expected to trigger widespread rainfall activity across several districts of Odisha over the next few days.
In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for September 11, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds of 30–40 kmph in parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
For September 12, the IMD has sounded an Orange Warning for Malkangiri district, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. On the same day, Yellow Warnings have been issued for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
The department has also extended the Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts till September 15. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid open areas during lightning, and follow safety advisories.
