Odisha Government to develop ‘New Bhubaneswar’ with modern infrastructure

Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: In a major urban development initiative, the Odisha government has unveiled plans to create a ‘New Bhubaneswar’ over an area of 800 acres. The ambitious project aims to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure, including well-planned roads, modern drainage systems, hospitals, residential colonies, commercial hubs, an IT park, and green recreational spaces such as parks and open grounds.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced on Monday that the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will spearhead the project. The expansion will cover emerging localities like Malipada, Dasapur, Andharua, and Gothapatna, ensuring that the capital city’s growing population has access to modern civic amenities.
The master plan for the new township has been prepared with technical support from the Singapore Government and takes inspiration from globally acclaimed models such as the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat and GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
Dr. Mahapatra emphasized that the project would not only improve urban living standards but also attract investments by promoting industrial and IT-based growth, creating new opportunities for employment and sustainable development.
