Odisha Govt announces 16 new NACs and 7 municipalities to strengthen grassroots governance

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: In a significant step towards boosting grassroots administration and urban development, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced the creation of 16 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) and 7 new municipalities across Odisha. The announcement was made during the Self-Governance Day celebrations at the Railway Auditorium in Bhubaneswar.
The new civic bodies will be set up in rapidly growing urban and semi-urban areas to ensure better governance, improved infrastructure, and efficient delivery of essential services like drinking water, sanitation, waste management, and road connectivity.
The newly formed NACs include Loisingha (Balangir), Sohela (Bargarh), Badamba, Narasinghpur, and Salepur (Cuttack), Gondia (Dhenkanal), Jagannathprasad and Patrapur (Ganjam), Chandikhole (Jajpur), Narla and Jayapatna (Kalahandi), Tangi (Khordha), Borigumma (Koraput), and Kaptipada, Jashipur, and Rasgovindpur (Mayurbhanj).
The new municipalities are Karanjia (Mayurbhanj), Boudh (Boudh), and Bhanjanagar, Aska, Chhatrapur, Kabisuryanagar, and Polasara (Ganjam).
The Chief Minister said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and stronger local governance, giving people in smaller towns and fast-growing regions a greater voice in planning and development.
