Missing girl found dead in Rayagada Dam; police launch probe

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: In a tragic development, the body of a minor girl, missing for the past two days, was recovered from Burgi Dam under Bhisamcuttak police station limits in Rayagada district on Monday.
According to reports, the girl had gone missing from her native Badakachapai village two days ago, leading to frantic searches by her family and locals. Their worst fears came true when villagers spotted her body floating in the reservoir and immediately informed the police. A team soon reached the spot, recovered the body, and confirmed her identity. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances behind her death.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with locals demanding a thorough inquiry to rule out foul play.
This tragedy follows another heartbreaking incident reported in June from Krushnapur village in Bhadrak district, where two minor sisters accidentally drowned while playing near a pond. Despite immediate rescue efforts and being rushed to Basudevpur CHC, both were declared dead on arrival.
These back-to-back incidents highlight the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures to ensure children’s safety near water bodies.
