Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: In a shocking incident at Mayarbaha village under Sadar police limits in Balangir district, a minor girl sustained grievous injuries after a youth allegedly slit her throat on Thursday evening. The victim, daughter of Ratna Bariha, was found bleeding profusely and was rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital. As her condition worsened, doctors referred her to Burla Medical College, where she is currently undergoing treatment in a critical state.

According to reports, the accused youth, said to be a distant relative of the girl’s mother and a resident of a nearby village, fled the spot after the crime. In a dramatic turn, he later consumed poison in an apparent attempt to end his life. He is now receiving treatment at Patnagarh Hospital under police guard and may soon be shifted to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital for further medical care.

Sadar Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact motive behind the brutal attack, which still remains unclear. The shocking incident has sparked tension and outrage among villagers, who have demanded strict action against the accused.
