Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman in Cuttack district allegedly attempted to end her life along with her three daughters after being distressed over her husband’s suspected extramarital affair. The shocking episode took place on Thursday morning at Baliapada village under Nischintakoili police limits.

The woman, identified as Jharana Mallick, reportedly poured kerosene on herself and her children in a desperate act. Fortunately, vigilant villagers noticed the situation and rushed to the spot. They managed to overpower her and prevent the tragic act, thereby saving the lives of the mother and her daughters.

Local residents immediately alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and took the family into custody for safety and investigation. Police sources said they are inquiring into the allegations of marital discord and the circumstances that pushed the woman to such an extreme step.

Authorities have assured necessary counseling and support to the family. The incident has sparked widespread concern in the locality, highlighting the urgent need for awareness on mental health, family counseling, and timely intervention in domestic disputes.
