Depression over south Odisha to weaken into low-pressure, says IMD

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday reported that a depression over south coastal Odisha has been moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 11 kmph over the last six hours. The system, as of 8:30 am, was centred over south interior Odisha near latitude 19.8°N and longitude 84.0°E.
The depression was located around 50 km north-northwest of Daringabadi, 90 km east of Bhawanipatna, and 90 km southeast of Titlagarh. Meteorologists stated that the weather system is expected to maintain its west-northwestward track, moving across south Odisha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh in the coming hours.
The IMD further predicted that the depression would gradually lose strength and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. This development may bring moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts of south and western Odisha, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Fishermen have been advised to exercise caution due to possible rough weather conditions in interior regions. The state government and district administrations are closely monitoring the situation to address any potential disruptions.
