College girl attacked by miscreants in Cuttack’s Mahanga, investigation underway

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: In a shocking incident, a Plus-III first-year student of Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) College, Kuanpal, was attacked by two unidentified miscreants while she was on her way to college at Mulabasanta village under Mahanga police station limits in Cuttack district on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Subhasmita Sahu, a resident of Mulabasanta village. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants allegedly attempted to snatch her belongings. When Subhasmita resisted, they attacked her with a sharp weapon and tried to slit her throat. She sustained injuries on her hand and fingers while defending herself.
Alert locals rushed to her rescue and immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital. Later, she was referred to the Mahanga Community Health Centre (CHC) for further treatment. Her condition is reported to be stable.
Following the incident, police personnel from Mahanga reached the spot and began a probe. Senior officers confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and nab the culprits.
The attack has sparked tension and concern among locals, with residents demanding stronger security measures to ensure the safety of students and commuters in the area.
