Cuttack’s iconic Dahibara vendor Raghu Mousa passes away at 94

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: Cuttack lost one of its most beloved culinary legends with the passing of Raghunath Sasmal, fondly known as Raghu Mousa, at the age of 94. Famous for his mouthwatering dahibara aludum, Raghu Mousa was not just a vendor but an institution who gave the city’s street food a unique identity.
Beginning his journey in 1950 at the age of 15, Raghu Mousa devoted more than six decades to perfecting his signature dish. His stall became instantly recognizable for its special serving style — piping hot dahibara aludum carefully presented in fresh sala leaves. Over the years, he turned a humble snack into a culinary heritage, drawing crowds of loyal customers, food enthusiasts, and curious visitors from across Odisha and beyond.
Despite his advancing years, Raghu Mousa continued to serve with unmatched enthusiasm, greeting every customer with warmth and dedication. He had been suffering from age-related ailments and was under treatment at home before his demise.
His death marks the end of an era in Cuttack’s food culture. The city mourns the loss of a man who made dahibara aludum a household name, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of food lovers.
