One killed, two injured as train hits railway trolley at Rayagada station

Bhubaneswar, July 17: A tragic accident at Rayagada railway station claimed the life of one labourer and left two others critically injured after a passenger train collided with a railway trolley being used for track maintenance. The incident occurred on Platform No. 4 on Thursday when the Visakhapatnam-Raipur Passenger (Train No. 58528) struck the trolley.
According to sources, the trolley was being operated by contractual labourers from the Railway Engineering Department as part of ongoing track maintenance work. As the passenger train approached, the labourers attempted to remove the trolley from the track. However, a portion of it got stuck, and before it could be fully cleared, the train collided with it.
One labourer died on the spot. His identity has not yet been officially confirmed. The injured have been identified as Babula Shaha and Sushant Das, who are currently undergoing treatment and reported to be in critical condition.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the enforcement of safety protocols during maintenance activities. Railway authorities are expected to initiate an internal inquiry to determine the lapses and prevent such tragedies in the future.
