Condition of FM College burn victim student still critical; next 72 hours crucial

Bhubaneswar, July 14: The condition of the girl student who attempted self-immolation outside the principal’s chamber of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College in Balasore on July 12 remains critical, according to doctors at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Dr. Dilip Parida, Superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, stated that her condition remains complex with no notable improvement. “The next 72 hours are crucial. She has a slight fever, and her blood pressure is being maintained. Fluid replacement is ongoing, and if required, dialysis will be initiated today. We are in constant consultation with AIIMS Delhi,” he said.
The student has suffered 90-95% deep burn injuries, leading to serious internal damage. Her kidneys and respiratory system have been severely affected. She is on 98% oxygen support and is unable to urinate due to kidney failure. Her potassium levels have dropped significantly, and her sugar levels are under constant monitoring.
A 10-member expert team has been formed at AIIMS to oversee her treatment. Vitamin and mineral supplements are being administered, and frequent blood tests are conducted.
She had reportedly taken the extreme step following alleged harassment by a lecturer and inaction by college authorities.
