Gajapati Maharaj reviews Ratna Bhandar restoration at Puri Srimandira, expresses satisfaction

Bhubaneswar, July 3: Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb, the royal servitor of Lord Jagannath, reviewed the ongoing repair and restoration work of the Ratna Bhandar of Srimandira—the revered Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha—on Thursday. After inspecting the progress, he reportedly expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the work.
The restoration of the Ratna Bhandar, which houses the temple's priceless treasures, is nearing completion. As part of the project, more than 600 damaged stones have been replaced, especially within the inner Ratna Bhandar, while 14 major beams have been thoroughly repaired and reinforced. Both the inner and outer sections of the structure are being chemically treated to preserve the stones for the long term.
Over 80 skilled artisans and craftsmen have been engaged in the intricate repair work, ensuring traditional methods are respected while using modern techniques for durability. In addition, all silver doors are undergoing cleaning, and new Burmese wood doors are being installed.
Furthermore, the wooden Kanak Mundi in the garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum) is being replaced with a more durable stainless steel Kanak Mundi, enhancing structural strength while maintaining the sanctity of the temple.
