Odisha strengthens maritime vision with major port projects and Rs 16,554 crore investment

Bhubaneswar, June 26: In a significant step towards transforming Odisha into a maritime hub, the State Government has signed concession agreements for the expansion of Gopalpur Port and the construction of a captive jetty at Jatadhara mouth. The agreements were formalized during a ceremony at Lokseva Bhawan, attended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who emphasized the state's commitment to developing port-led commerce through public-private partnerships.
The captive jetty at Jatadhara mouth, to be built by JSW Utkal Steel Limited in Jagatsinghpur district, will handle 52 million metric tons of cargo and is expected to create 3,450 direct and indirect jobs. Meanwhile, Gopalpur Ports Limited will invest ₹16,554 crore to enhance Gopalpur Port's cargo capacity to 50 million metric tons, generating 5,000 employment opportunities.
Chief Minister Majhi reaffirmed plans to establish new ports at Inchudi and Bahuda, while accelerating development at Subarnarekha and Astaranga. He lauded companies like Adani Ports and JSW Steel for ushering in a new era of industrial growth.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena highlighted Odisha’s strategic focus on expanding non-major ports, jetties, fish harbours, and coastal infrastructure to unlock the state’s economic potential.
