Schools reopen across Odisha amid excitement and precautionary measures

Bhubaneswar, June 20: After an extended summer break, schools across Odisha reopened today, bringing joy and excitement among students eager to return to their classrooms. Campuses across the state buzzed with cheerful chatter as children reunited with friends and teachers, ready to begin the new academic session with fresh notebooks, crisp uniforms, and renewed enthusiasm.
Students were seen exchanging vacation stories, showing off souvenirs, and soaking in the excitement of a new school year. The reopening marked a vibrant and emotional return to routine for many.
However, schools in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack remained closed today due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state capital. Authorities cited security and logistical concerns as reasons for the temporary closure.
Meanwhile, in Jajpur, schools and Anganwadi centres will remain closed until June 24, and in Bhadrak, all schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres will stay shut until June 21 following a diarrhoea outbreak in the region.
To safeguard students, the Odisha government has implemented several health and hygiene protocols. Schools without water purification systems have been instructed to provide boiled drinking water, while mid-day meal staff are required to serve hot meals only.
Additionally, strict cleanliness drives have been launched, including the sanitisation of school premises and water tanks. Authorities have also ordered the closure of fast food stalls near school campuses to minimise the risk of foodborne illness.
