Bhubaneswar, June 17: Police in Gopalpur have apprehended three additional individuals in connection with the horrific gang-rape of a 20-year-old college student at Gopalpur beach. These latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to ten.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening when the victim and a male friend were at the beach celebrating the Raja festival. According to the complaint filed with police, a group of ten men, who had allegedly been consuming alcohol, approached the pair.

The accused are alleged to have molested the female student. When her male friend intervened, he was assaulted, and the group then gang-raped the woman.

Based on the victim's complaint, Gopalpur police swiftly registered a case and launched an investigation. Initially, seven individuals were detained. The three latest arrests occurred as the suspects attempted to flee to another state.

Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M has confirmed the formation of a special team to accelerate the investigation and ensure that justice is served for the victim. Authorities have also visited the crime scene to collect crucial evidence.
