Odisha Government postpones school reopening to June 20 amid weather concerns

Bhubaneswar, June 16: The Odisha government has announced a change in the reopening date for schools after the summer vacation, rescheduling it from June 18 to June 20, 2025. The decision comes in light of the prevailing weather conditions, including high temperatures and the ongoing transition to the monsoon season, which could pose health risks for children.
According to an official communication from the School and Mass Education Department, all District Education Officers (DEOs) have been informed of the revised reopening date. The letter stated: “In partial modification of the instructions, it is to inform you that the date of reopening of the schools may be read as 20.06.2025 instead of 18.06.2025. All other instructions communicated vide the letters shall stand as such.”
In addition, the state government has directed that the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program must be implemented from the first day of reopening, ensuring that all students aged 6 to 14 years receive nutritious meals when they return to school on June 20.
