Bhubaneswar, June 13: A woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Kuchiakoili village under Soro police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district, sparking outrage and tension between two families. 

The deceased, identified as Runu, was married to Rajendra Mallick of Kuchiakoili nearly nine years ago in a traditional ceremony. She hailed from Khirakona village and was the daughter of Prahlad Das.

According to initial reports, Runu was found hanging in her bedroom early on Thursday. Her husband, Rajendra, claimed he discovered her in that condition and immediately rushed her to the Soro Community Health Centre. However, doctors declared her brought dead upon arrival.

Soon after receiving the news, Runu’s family members rushed to the hospital and alleged that she had been murdered by her husband and mother-in-law. Tension escalated at the hospital premises when members of the deceased’s family reportedly assaulted Rajendra and his relatives, accusing them of foul play.

Soro police arrived at the scene to defuse the situation and bring order. They have since detained Rajendra for questioning and registered a case based on the complaint filed by Runu’s family. Further investigation is underway.
