Morning heatwave hits Odisha coast, rain likely in interior southern districts
Bhubaneswar, June 2: In a hot and humid start to the day, several coastal regions of Odisha recorded high morning temperatures by 8:30 AM, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD scientist Umasankar Das stated that Puri was the hottest among them, with the mercury soaring to 34.8°C.
Close behind were Paradip and Balasore, both registering 33.6°C. Other prominent locations such as Chandbali, Bhubaneswar, and Gopalpur also experienced elevated temperatures above 32°C, signaling a sweltering day ahead for coastal residents.
Despite the heat in coastal areas, the IMD has forecast varied weather conditions across different parts of the state. According to the latest IMD weather bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at one or two places in southern Odisha districts. These include Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Sudden showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in these regions.
Meanwhile, dry and clear weather is likely to persist in the remaining districts of Odisha. People in these areas can expect sunny skies and no significant rainfall for the day.
