Highway robbery in Nayagarh: Biker attacked, vehicle torched by armed gang

Bhubaneswar, May 20: In a shocking early morning incident, a group of eight armed robbers in a Scorpio SUV launched a brutal attack on three bike-borne men on the Dashapalla-Bhanjanagar Highway in Odisha's Nayagarh district. The incident occurred around 4 AM near Sakeni village under Dasapalla police limits.
According to sources, the victims, including one Jatia Behera from Khandapada village, were en route to Bhanjanagar when they were intercepted by the miscreants. The robbers demanded money from the group, and when the victims refused, the situation turned violent. While two of the bikers managed to escape, Jatia Behera was caught and mercilessly assaulted by the attackers using fists and sharp blades, leaving him seriously injured.
Adding to the brutality, the robbers torched the victims’ motorcycle before fleeing the scene. Local residents rushed the injured man to the Dasapalla Community Health Centre, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the attackers. The incident has sparked fear and outrage among local residents, who are now demanding tighter security and regular patrolling along the highway to prevent such crimes.
