No new Covid-19 cases in Odisha, confirms Public Health Director

Bhubaneswar, May 17: Odisha has not reported any new Covid-19 cases, according to Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health, who addressed the media on Saturday. He confirmed that the state continues regular testing and surveillance, and the overall situation remains under control.
“There have been no new Covid-19 detections in the state. Testing continues at a steady pace, and all testing facilities are fully operational,” Dr. Mishra stated, reassuring the public about Odisha’s preparedness.
His comments come amid a rise in Covid-19 cases in countries like Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Dr. Mishra said the Odisha Health Department is closely monitoring global developments and remains in contact with the World Health Organization (WHO).
He clarified that no new variant has been reported by WHO so far. “The increase in cases abroad is largely due to weakened immunity, especially among children, the elderly, and those with chronic health issues. We advise these groups to stay vigilant,” he said.
Though no special alert has been issued in India, Dr. Mishra emphasized that the state is on high alert. He assured that any updates or necessary actions will be communicated promptly to the public.
