MEA, Nepal express grief over Nepali student’s death at KIIT; probe underway

Bhubaneswar, May 2: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday expressed deep condolences over the tragic death of a female Nepali student, Prisha Shah, at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Bhubaneswar. The ministry emphasized that the Indian government prioritizes the safety and well-being of all international students.
In an official statement, the MEA said it has been in constant touch with the Odisha State Government since learning of the incident. It confirmed that Odisha Police has launched a thorough investigation, and the state government is extending full support to the bereaved family.
The MEA also stated it is coordinating closely with Nepali authorities, the Odisha government, and KIIT management to ensure seamless communication.
Nepal’s Foreign Affairs Minister Arzu Rana Deuba also mourned the death and said diplomatic steps have been initiated to uncover the truth. Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar P Sharma, confirmed close coordination with Indian authorities and KIIT officials.
