CM Mohan Charan Majhi disburses ₹1,025 crore under CM-KISAN Scheme on Akshaya Tritiya

Bhubaneswar, April 30: In a major boost to the farming sector, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi released ₹1,025 crore under the CM-KISAN Scheme on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, benefiting around 51 lakh farmers across the state.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the financial assistance covers 50,16,938 small and marginal farmers, 49,482 landless agricultural families, and 2,382 tribal farming families for the 2025 Kharif season. Significantly, 25,532 urban farmers have also been included in the scheme for the first time.
Speaking at the state-level Farmers’ Day celebration at OUAT farm, Baramunda, CM Majhi highlighted the government's commitment to increasing farmers’ income through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Sri Anna Yojana, crop diversification, and integrated farming programmes.
He reflected on India's agricultural transformation, from a food-deficient country at independence to a self-reliant exporter of food products. Citing that over 60% of Odisha’s population depends on agriculture, contributing 22% to the state’s GDP, he urged farmers to embrace climate-resilient practices and praised their dedication in making Odisha food-surplus.
