Two Odisha-cadre IPS officers appointed to senior BSF posts

Bhubaneswar, April 26: Two Odisha-cadre IPS officers, Ravi Kant and Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, have been appointed to top positions in the Border Security Force (BSF). The Ministry of Home Affairs issued notifications confirming their appointments.
Ravi Kant, a 1998-batch officer, has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) of BSF on deputation for five years or until further orders. The Centre has directed the Odisha Chief Secretary to relieve him immediately to enable him to assume his new role. Ravi Kant was previously serving as an Officer on Special Duty in the Home Department since July 2024.
Similarly, Mitrabhanu Mahapatra, a 2010-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF under the same terms. The Ministry has also requested his immediate release to join his new assignment at the Centre.
Both appointments were made against existing vacancies within the BSF.
