IMD issues yellow warning for thunderstorms and heatwave across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, April 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning across 25 districts of Odisha on April 27. Gusty surface winds are also forecasted in several areas, prompting residents to remain alert.
According to a special bulletin from the IMD, a cyclonic circulation persisting over east Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, is influencing Odisha’s weather patterns.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are likely in districts such as Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, and Nayagarh.
Similarly, gusty winds at 30–40 kmph with thunder and lightning are expected at isolated places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nuapada. Boudh, Sonepur, and Bolangir districts may also experience thunderstorms.
In addition, a yellow warning for heatwave conditions has been issued for Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bolangir, and Sambalpur. Hot and humid weather is likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
Day temperatures are expected to remain steady for two days, before dropping by 3–5°C.
