Odisha sizzles under scorching heat; Jharsuguda records 41°C

Bhubaneswar, April 21: Odisha continues to battle intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring across several regions. As of 11:30 am today, Jharsuguda topped the charts, recording the highest temperature in the state at 41°C. Other western districts are also reeling under oppressive heat—Sambalpur registered 38.2°C, Hirakud 38.4°C, and Rourkela 38°C.
The capital city, Bhubaneswar, remained relatively cooler at 34.6°C, but high humidity levels made the weather feel more uncomfortable. Health officials have raised concerns over rising cases of heat-related ailments, urging residents to remain indoors during peak afternoon hours.
On Sunday, the heatwave was even more severe. Jharsuguda recorded a sweltering 43.5°C, followed by Balangir at 42.5°C and Titlagarh at 42°C. Bhubaneswar reached 37.5°C, but due to high humidity, the heat index made conditions feel significantly hotter.
The Regional Meteorological Department has forecast continued heatwave conditions in the coming days. Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and take precautions to prevent heatstroke. Elderly individuals, children, and those with health conditions are particularly vulnerable during this period.
