Odisha CM approves 2,500 new Home Guard posts to strengthen police force

Bhubaneswar, April 15: In a key step toward bolstering law enforcement in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday approved the creation of 2,500 new Home Guard posts. This move is part of the state government's broader strategy to enhance internal security and improve public safety.
As per an official press release, Odisha currently has 17,675 Home Guards serving across various districts. With the addition of these new posts, the total sanctioned strength will rise to 20,175, significantly boosting the state’s auxiliary police support system.
Chief Minister Majhi had earlier expressed his commitment to strengthening the police force, ensuring better response and community policing across urban and rural areas alike. In line with this vision, the government also plans to create approximately 12,000 new positions within different wings of the state police department.
This expansion is expected to improve manpower availability, enhance surveillance capabilities, and support disaster response efforts. The initiative reflects the government’s resolve to provide a safer environment for the people of Odisha through a well-equipped and efficient police force.
