Youth kills father in Sundargarh to avenge mother's death

Bhubaneswar, April 14: In a shocking incident in Bhalupatra village under Brahmani Tarang police limits in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, a 22-year-old youth allegedly murdered his 55-year-old father to avenge the death of his mother. The accused has been identified as Bishnu Barma, while the deceased has been identified as Kranti Kumar Barma.
According to police sources, Kranti Kumar had earlier been convicted for killing his wife—Bishnu’s mother—and had served a prison sentence for the crime. He was released from jail in December 2024 after completing his term. However, his return reportedly disrupted the family’s life once again.
Bishnu claimed that after his release, his father remained violent, regularly assaulting him and allegedly harassing women in the village. Unable to tolerate the trauma and continuous abuse, Bishnu allegedly killed his father and left the body on a nearby road.
Upon receiving information, local police arrived at the scene, seized the body, and launched an investigation with assistance from a forensic team. Bishnu has since confessed to the crime, citing years of emotional pain and unresolved trauma following his mother’s murder.
