Bhubaneswar, April 10: In a heart-wrenching incident, a young medical student tragically drowned while bathing in Derjang Dam in Odisha's Angul district, as his friends watched helplessly, unable to save him. The incident occurred earlier today and has left the local community in shock.

The deceased has been identified as Rulu Pradhan, a native of Tainshi village. Rulu was pursuing his medical studies at a reputed college in Hyderabad and had recently returned home on leave to spend time with his family.

According to reports, Rulu had gone to Derjang Dam along with a group of friends to enjoy a bath and some leisure time. Unfortunately, while bathing, he slipped and lost his footing. He was quickly pulled into deeper waters by a strong current and disappeared beneath the surface.

Despite being present at the scene, his friends were unable to rescue him in time. Local police from Jarpada were alerted and promptly arrived at the site. The body was recovered, and a case has been registered. Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
