Rourkela Police bust inter-state cyber fraud racket, nine arrested; Rs 1.41 crore seized
Bhubaneswar, April 9: In a major crackdown on cybercrime, Rourkela police have arrested nine inter-state cyber fraudsters, most of whom hail from Chhattisgarh. Acting on a tip-off, police raided an apartment in Civil Township and detained two individuals. This led to a subsequent raid at Basanti Colony, where five more suspects were nabbed. Later, two others were arrested from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kishan Agrawal (26), Kunal Agarwal (25), Arjun Singh (27), Girdhari Singh, Ajay Kumar (25), Sandeep Kumar Soni (28), Soumendra Singh Rajput (27), Abhijit Bharadwaj, and Dinesh Kumar Sahu (25).
Several incriminating items, including fake SIM cards, mobile phones, and laptops, were seized. The fraudsters were operating through a fake trading app called “TradeNow” and used mule bank accounts to process transactions worth over ₹50 lakh daily.
The investigation revealed that the mastermind, Kishan Agrawal, is based in Dubai and coordinates the racket across India and other countries. So far, ₹1.41 crore has been frozen across 23 accounts, and 176 more are under verification. The international angle of the racket, involving hawala transactions, is being thoroughly investigated.
