Man accidentally shoots friend during hunting trip in Dhenkanal, probe underway

Bhubaneswar, April 4: A tragic incident unfolded in Kadalipal village under Rasol police station limits of Dhenkanal district, where a man allegedly shot and killed his friend during a late-night hunting expedition on Thursday.
According to police reports, four friends from Manpur village had gone into a nearby cashew forest for hunting. During the expedition, one of them, Prashant Nayak, accidentally fired his gun at his friend Babula Nayak, mistaking him for an animal in the dark. The bullet fatally struck Babula, leading to his immediate death.
In a state of panic, the group reportedly hid Babula's body in the forest near Kanpur village and silently returned home. The following morning, Babula’s wife, Jhilli Nayak, was informed of the tragedy. Shocked and devastated, she alerted fellow villagers and rushed to the police.
The Rasol police, upon receiving the report, reached the location, recovered the body, and sent it to Hindol Hospital for post-mortem. Prashant Nayak has been detained for questioning. A detailed investigation is underway to verify the circumstances and intentions behind the incident.
