Odisha Government to reopen schools shut under previous merger policy

Bhubaneswar, March 28: In a significant move to strengthen education in Odisha, the state government has announced plans to reopen schools that were previously shut down due to the school merger policy of the former administration. The announcement was made by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond at the Odisha Assembly on Friday.
Responding to a question from Attabira MLA Nihar Ranjan Mahananda regarding the reopening of these schools, Gond stated that the government is committed to restoring educational facilities in affected areas. He explained that once a proposal for reopening a closed school is received, it will first be examined by a district-level committee. The findings will then be forwarded to a state-level committee, which will review and recommend necessary actions in line with policy guidelines.
Upon approval, the state government will take necessary steps to facilitate the reopening of these schools, ensuring that students in rural and remote areas regain access to quality education. The initiative aims to address educational gaps and improve learning opportunities for children across Odisha.
