Man stones wife to death in Sundargarh, absconds after crime

Bhubaneswar, March 26: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly stoned his wife to death at Hutupani village under Talasara police limits in Sundargarh district. The accused, identified as Rupanan Singh, fled the scene after committing the crime, prompting a police manhunt.
The victim, Durgabati Singh, was reportedly attacked while the couple was collecting mahua flowers in a nearby forest. According to police sources, a heated argument broke out between them, escalating into violence. In a fit of rage, Rupanan allegedly struck Durgabati with a stone, killing her on the spot.
Following the brutal act, Rupanan reportedly informed some villagers that he intended to take his own life before vanishing into the wilderness. Alarmed by his confession, locals alerted the police, who launched an extensive search operation across forests, rivers, and ponds in the area.
Authorities have registered a case and intensified efforts to apprehend the accused. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns over rising domestic disputes and violent crimes in rural Odisha.
