Odisha Assembly adjourned amid uproar over women’s safety and reservation issues

Bhubaneswar, March 25: The Odisha Assembly witnessed a stormy session today as opposition parties created chaos over key issues, leading to an adjournment until 11:30 am. The disruptions centered around women’s safety and the demand for reservations for SC/ST and OBC communities in education.
As soon as the Question Hour began, Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) legislators stormed the Speaker’s podium in protest. Congress members intensified their agitation by playing traditional musical instruments, ignoring repeated pleas from Speaker Padhy to maintain order. The protests made it impossible for the House to conduct its scheduled business.
The Congress party demanded the formation of a House committee to address the issue of women’s security in Odisha, citing recent incidents that have raised concerns. Meanwhile, the BJD pressed for a 27% reservation for SC/ST and OBC students in medical education.
With the situation remaining uncontrollable, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the Assembly proceedings until 11:30 am. The disruptions indicate a heated debate ahead as parties continue to push their demands.
