Odisha Vigilance arrests Panchayat Executive Officer for embezzling ₹43 lakh

Bhubaneswar, March 21: Odisha Vigilance arrested Khetramohan Nayak, the Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Radhadeipur Gram Panchayat under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district, for allegedly misappropriating ₹43,01,640 in government funds.
Investigations revealed that Nayak, who joined government service in July 2024, systematically siphoned funds from multiple accounts, including CFC (Central Finance Commission), SFC (State Finance Commission), PDS (Public Distribution System), and OAP (Old Age Pension). He allegedly abused his official power and forged the Sarpanch’s signature to facilitate the fraud.
Authorities discovered that Nayak diverted the embezzled funds into online betting and gaming apps, particularly for cricket betting. His extravagant transactions raised suspicions, leading to a detailed probe by the vigilance department.
Based on the findings, Berhampur Vigilance registered a case (No. 03/2025) against Nayak under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988. The accused was taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace additional fund diversions and identify any accomplices.
